The STEM and STEAM movements are educational initiatives that can be seen in school systems throughout the country. STEM and STEAM programs in DuPage County provide examples of the expansive range of community amenities available to homebuyers looking in Chicago’s western suburbs.

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. STEAM stands for science, technology, arts, engineering, and mathematics. Both approaches focus on teaching students the skills and knowledge they will need to succeed in the 21st-century workforce.

TinkRworks, Hinsdale

Based in Hinsdale at 21 West 2nd Street, Suite 300, TinkRworks applies a project-based learning approach to STEAM courses and summer camp programs. Programs are segmented by grade level for students in grades 1 and 2, grades 3 through 5, and grades 6 through 9. For students in grades 10 and up, private and semi-private projects are available. Programs include robotics, 3D design, programmable electronics, computer programming, and more.

TinkRworks also offers summer camp programs throughout Chicago’s western suburbs. Summer camp locations include the TinkRWorks Engagement Center in Hinsdale, the Avery Coonley School in Downers Grove, and the Kindi Academy School in Darien.

Codinu, Naperville

Located at 2244 95th Street Suite 308 in Naperville, Codinu is a coding studio for ages 7 through 17 that emphasizes teaching students to be creative thinkers and problem solvers. Classes are organized by age levels and focus on coding in Python, web design and development, computer animation, and more. Spring break and summer camp sessions are now open for registration.

Codinu partners with the Naperville Park District, Wheaton Park District, and Hinsdale Community House to offer after-school and weekend classes plus summer camp sessions at each of these locations.

Codeverse, Naperville

With a coding studio located at 55 South Main Street in Naperville, Codeverse offers after-school and weekend classes for ages 6 through 13. Codeverse tailors their programs to meet individual learning styles and and skill levels starting from beginner on up. Coding takes center stage, but classes integrate skills like critical thinking, problem solving, and social interaction.

NanoBeasts, Naperville

Based at 2952 Beth Lane in Naperville, NanoBeasts teaches coding, electronics, robotics, and engineering to kids ages 5 through 14. An interactive, project-based approach keeps kids engaged while they create, build, and program.
