Ferris Bueller, Chicago’s favorite movie teen, famously said: “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it.” In the summer months, there’s no better place to stop and look around than at a restaurant with al fresco dining.

From picturesque patios to rooftops bars with million dollar views, the outdoor dining experience is like driving a convertible with the radio turned up a la Ferris and his pals. Here’s our picks for the hottest al fresco dining spots in Chicago’s western suburbs.

Looking for a home in the western suburbs? These top restaurants are located in some of the most sought-after communities. Contact a john greene agent to learn about our latest listings.

Fiora’s, Geneva

Located in historic downtown Geneva, Fiora’s is a European-influenced, American restaurant featuring an expansive outdoor patio, bar, and stage.

While the al fresco ambiance is reminiscent of an Old-World German beer garden, Fiora’s certainly isn’t a pretzels and bratwurst kind of place. From appetizers like wild mushroom strudel to entrees such as filet medallions au poivre, Fiora’s features a thoughtful, well-curated menu of classic and contemporary dishes.

Nightly live music performances on the outdoor stage make Fiora’s a summer hotspot. It’s easy to see why the Kane County Chronicle voted Fiora’s the “Best Restaurant” the last five years and counting. 317 S. 3rd Street, Geneva.

Ivy Restaurant, Wheaton

“Shop local so local stays” is the theme at Ivy. The restaurant’s seasonal menus feature a true farm-to-table experience. Housed in a former chapel in downtown Wheaton, Ivy has a stunning interior with arched ceiling and stained glass windows.

But that’s not all. Ivy takes “going green” to the next level with a 90-seat outdoor patio that’s framed in beautiful vines of climbing ivy. The garden setting is perfect for lunch, dinner, or meeting friends after work for a nice pinot noir. 120 N. Hale Street, Wheaton.

Meson Sabika, Naperville

Housed in a mansion on a lush, four-acre estate in Naperville, Meson Sebika features eight dinning rooms, an award-winning patio, and the best Spanish cuisine this side of Barcelona.

Al fresco dining at Meson Sebika is like dining on the lawn of a Mediterranean villa. Vibrant hanging arrangements, colorful flowerbeds, and 150-year-old oak trees create an idyllic setting for enjoying hot and cold tapas, classic Spanish paellas, specialty desserts, and world-class wines.

Forget fastening your seatbelt, stowing the tray table, and making sure your seat is in the upright position. Meson Sebika offers a taste of Spain without the hassle of flying. 1025 Aurora Avenue, Naperville.

Two Brothers Roundhouse, Aurora

Part brewpub restaurant, part beer garden and music venue, the Two Brothers Roundhouse is a three-level, 70,000 square-foot eating and drinking complex in Aurora. At the center of the complex, which also features a first-floor coffee house and deli and second-floor farm-to-table eatery, is the roundhouse.

It’s not just any roundhouse, however, but the oldest limestone roundhouse in the United States. The structure was built in 1856 to serve Aurora on the Chicago & Aurora Railroad and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Two Brothers offers foodies and beer lovers a little bit of everything, including locally-sourced menu options, a rotating selection of artisan beers and spirits, and a variety of year-round live entertainment. 205 N. Broadway, Aurora.
