1. Fall Walk Along the Naperville Riverwalk

Few things capture the feeling of fall in Naperville better than an afternoon along the Riverwalk. The 1.75-mile brick path follows the West Branch of the DuPage River through downtown, passing covered bridges, fountains, gardens, public art, and scenic spots along the water. As the leaves begin to change, it’s an especially beautiful place to enjoy a leisurely walk, take photos, or simply spend some time outdoors.

Make an afternoon of it by starting with a stroll along the river, then heading into downtown for coffee, lunch, or some local shopping. The Riverwalk’s central location also makes it easy to combine a walk with other downtown attractions.

2. Fall on the Farm at Riverview Farmstead Preserve – September 19th 

Get ready for some old-fashioned fun on the farm! From 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM at Riverview Farmstead Preserve, tour the mid-1800s limestone house and historic red barn, meet friendly animals in the petting zoo, and try farmstead chores like collecting eggs, washing clothes by hand, playing in the corn, and pretending to run a farm stand. You can even make butter from cream!

Explore tractors and antique farm equipment up close, then enjoy a barnyard-themed bounce house, make-and-take crafts, live bluegrass music from Rochambeau, and activities for all ages. The farm will be beautifully decorated for fall, creating plenty of photo opportunities. Food and drinks from Smokin Z’ BBQ, Kona Ice, and Tapville Social will also be available, along with vendors offering unique goods.

3. Fall Porch Pot Workshop at The Growing Place – September 20th

Get creative for the season at the Fall Porch Pot Workshop at The Growing Place Garden Center on September 20th from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM. This hands-on container gardening session gives you the chance to create a beautiful 13-inch fall pot to enjoy at home throughout the season.

The workshop is $70 and is a fun way to add a festive touch to your porch while learning some container gardening tips along the way!

4. Naperville Farmers Market Annual Fall Fest – September 26th

Mark your calendar for Fall Fest on September 26th from 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM, featuring special vendor promotions, including local cheese discounts, honey deals, and free plant giveaways.

Browse seasonal produce, baked goods, specialty foods, and locally made products while enjoying the atmosphere of downtown.

5. Fall Family 5K at Danada Forest – September 27th 

Get outside and enjoy the beautiful fall scenery at the Fall Family 5K at Danada Forest Preserve on September 27th starting at 9:00 AM, organized by The Inside Out Club. Bring the whole family for a fun morning of fresh air, activities, and time together while taking in the seasonal beauty of the preserve.

Whether you’re an experienced runner or simply looking for a fun way to enjoy the outdoors, this family-friendly event is a great way to kick off a fall day.

6. Oktoberfest at Naper Settlement – October 2nd & 3rd

Bring your appetite and your best Oktoberfest spirit to Naper Settlement for two days of German food, beer and live entertainment. The celebration takes place under a giant tent on the historic 13-acre grounds and features traditional German cuisine, a variety of Oktoberfest beers and live music.

The event will take place October 2 from 5-10 PM and October 3 from 3-10 PM. Friday’s entertainment lineup features Ed Wagner’s Lustige Blaskapelle and Eliminator, a ZZ Top cover band, with additional live performances scheduled throughout Saturday. Guests can also put their strength to the test in Saturday’s stein-holding contest, while families can enjoy children’s activities and inflatables throughout the event.

7. McDowell Point Fall Festival – October 3rd

For a more relaxed way to celebrate the season, check out the McDowell Point Fall Festival on October 3rd from 11:00 AM - 2:00PM. The community event offers a mix of autumn-themed activities, photo opportunities and family-friendly entertainment.

Visitors can take part in mini community tours, stop by the candy apple bar and enjoy popcorn while taking in the fall atmosphere. It's a good choice if you're looking for a smaller neighborhood event that can be paired with other activities around Naperville that weekend.
